2008 DEMOLITION DERBY RULES

 

1.  Entries and Fees

·        Each driver must register and sign a release.

·        The Fair Board reserves the right to approve or reject any entry.

·        All drivers must possess a valid driver’s license.  “Drivers under 18 years of age must show proof of a valid driver’s license and a notarized release signed by a parent or guardian. Minimum driver age is 15 ½ years and must possess a valid permit or license.”

·        No entry fee will be refunded.

·        Entry fee of $40.00 per car (allows drivers entry only).

·        All other persons entering Pit Area must pay a $6.00 pit fee.

 

2.  Drivers

·        Any driver not obeying the rules will be disqualified.

·        Only the driver is allowed in the inspection line area. More than one may call for disqualification.

·        No drinking of alcoholic beverages on the grounds will be permitted.

·        Drivers may maneuver forward and backward. There will be no deliberate hitting of the drivers door.

·        A time limit will be announced by the judges. If a driver does not hit another car within the 1 minute time limit, he/she will be disqualified.  Playing possum or sandbagging, or double-teaming will result in the stoppage of the heat and that particular car(s) will be warned and then disqualified.

·        Boundaries must be observed.

·        No drivers working as a team or together in any heat or feature. More discussion on this at the drivers meeting.

·        All cars must be off grounds, unless left for scrap, then title must be turned over after the event.

·        Protest – only registered drivers may protest another entered car for a non-refundable fee of $100.00. Both the protestor and protested car will be re-inspected.  All protests must be made before start of feature.

 

3.  Cars

·        American and foreign made hardtop automobiles or station wagons are allowed.  No trucks, (other than truck heat) jeeps, convertibles, or 4-wheel drive cars.

·        Standard safety belts, eye protection and helmets required.

·        All drivers must supply their own car.

·        All glass, head and tail lights must be removed prior to coming, all trim and molding must be removed prior to coming. They may not be removed on the grounds.

·        A maximum of five (5) gallons of gasoline will be permitted.  Gas tanks must be moved to the rear seat area, but must be covered with a canvas or rubber material. No stock tanks.  Mandatory steel gas tanks or boat tanks.  No plastic gas containers allowed.  ABSOLUTELY NO ALCOHOL BURNING MOTORS.

·        No special bumpers, reinforcements, or trailer hitches permitted.  SHEET METAL MAY NOT BE WELDED TO THE BUMPER OF THE CAR; BUMPERS MUST BE SEPARATE FROM BODY.

·        Bumper brackets may be welded to frame, bumper height min. 15”.

·        Engine mounts may be chained, wired, or welded.  No chains or cables over the top.

·        ABSOLUTELY NO SEEM OR FRAME WELDING ALLOWED. Welded or locked rear ends are permitted. Fender wells may be cut for wheel clearance. Trunk hood and tailgate wired only – NO WELDS. Will be wired after inspection.

·        Vehicles must have working brakes at all times.

·        Any car spilling gas or catching fire will be disqualified.

·        A six (6) inch bar may be put behind the driver’s seat and across the dash area.  These bars must run horizontal across car and be securely fastened with a plate no longer than 6x6. Seat bar and dash bar may be connected in one spot only on driver and passenger side of car.

·        Cars must be swept out. No junk tires, wheels, metal parts inside.  All cars must have factory-cooling system. One (1) transmission cooler is permitted only under hood.  No dry ice.

·        Battery must be moved to the inside of the car and covered and fastened down.

·        Wire: Six (6) double strands of wire in front and rear from body to bumper to close hood, trunk lid and tailgate.

·        All cars must have the fan blade covered by shroud or hood.

·        Hoods must be in place and operable. HOODS AND TRUNK LIDS WILL BE OPENED DURING INSPECTION. They may be wired only after inspection. They must have a 12-inch hole above the carburetor.  Hoods are NOT to be WELDED or BOLTED and factory latch must be removed.

·        All doors can be welded shut.  Plates not to be over 3" wide.

·         Body bolts can be changed. Washers must be 3” x ¼” or less. If the rubber in the body mount is removed it must be replaced with a ¾ in. spacer no more than 3”.

·         ¾ ton rear ends ok.

                                         

                 Coil to leaf spring conversion.

·         Maximum of 7 springs per side. Maximum leaf thickness of 5/16”. Maximum leaf width of 2.5”. Maximum leaf length of 63”. Leafs must lay horizontally.

·         4 spring clamps are permitted on each leaf pack using no thicker than ¼” and no wider than 2” steel.

·         No bolting of leaf springs. No duct-taping or welding of springs together.

·         Front spring hangers cannot exceed 6” in length or ¼” in thickness.

·         Leaf conversions do not need to be a “working” shackle.

·         If rear hanger is welded solid, they may only run vertically. The rear hangers cannot exceed 4” in width, 6” in length, or ¼” in thickness.

·         Rear control arms may be lengthened or shortened with only a 1” overlap. Same thickness material.

            Front Suspension

·         A-arms may be bolted solid or welded to achieve desired bumper height. If welded, you may use one piece of ½” diameter rod to tie the upper a-arm and lower a-arm or a-arm and the frame together.

·         No strengthening of tie-rods, ball joints, or a-arms permitted.

·        Bumper height is 22 inches maximum to bottom of bumper and stock height.

·        Headers are allowed. Must point up.

·        Bumpers, shock may be welded all the way around. Welds are not to exceed ½” wide.

·        No profanity to be written on cars. This will lead to disqualification.

·        Both doors must be painted white with #number. Special numbers are permitted.  THIS IS MANDATORY!!

·        No fluid of any kind in tires.  No studded tires.  No screws or fastening devices to hold tires on rims. NO SPLIT RIMS.

·         No wedging, tucking, or smashing of quarter panels is permitted.

 

 

4.  Prizes

·        The derby will be composed of the individual heats, consolation, and one feature.  If you wish to go to the consolation, there will be a $10.00 re-entry fee. You will be given a ticket and that ticket MUST be presented as you enter the arena.  No ticket – No consolation. The feature will be made up of winners of the previous heat and the three (3) last cars in the consolation.  If the last two cars in the feature become locked together, they will have two minutes to get themselves free.  At the end of two minutes and the cars are still locked together, the red flag will be thrown and the heat will be stopped. The derby staff will then separate the two cars and let them continue until one car is left.

·        NOTETOP THREE (3) FINISHERS IN FEATURE: Cars/Drivers will remain in place to go through a final inspection per rules before any awards/prize money is presented.  All results are un-official until Derby Judges make results final. Decision of the official judges as to heat winners and feature place winners will be final.

 

5.  Compact Cars

·        All American and foreign cars are allowed.

·        All of the rules apply to the compact car as well as the following:

·        Wheelbase not to exceed 105 inches (center of front wheel to center of back wheel).

·        Engine size not to exceed 6 cylinders.

·        No 4-wheel drives vehicles.

·         Stock gas tank must be removed. Electric fuel pump allowed if original equipment.

·        (must have mandatory shut off switch).

 

6.  Powder Puff (must have 3 entries to run)

               

·         Follow all rules as above.

·         Must be a female driver.

 

 7. Trucks (must have 3 entries to run)

 

·         Follow all rules as above unless superseded below.

·         Any American made 2-wheel drive truck or 4x4 with only one drive shaft, Blazers and Suburban’s are permitted.

·         Tailgates may be welded shut.

·         Beds must be welded to cab of truck with a 3” strap directly behind doors.

·         A four point cage is required to compete.

·         Securely fasten gas tanks directly behind the center of the cab in the bed.

 

 8. Mini-Vans (must have 3 entries to run)

 

·         All side doors must be welded shut.

·         Only 4 or 6 cylinder engines.

·         Follow rules as above

·         Stock suspension only.

 

9. Other

·        Additional safety regulations may be imposed depending on the track.

·         Only, Fair Board approved vehicles will be allowed to remove cars from the arena.

·        NO third party vehicles will be permitted.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

 

INSPECTION PROCEDURE:

·        All hoods and trunk lids must be open during inspection.

·        All faults noted during inspection must be corrected and car will only be allowed re-inspected one time,

·        If faults are not corrected during re-inspection, car will be disqualified and no refunds on entry fees will be refunded.  ALL DECISIONS OF DERBY OFFICIALS ARE FINAL

·        Inspection closes at 7:00 be early if possible

                                         The derby coordinator shall be empowered to allow minor variation from any of the

                                         provisions herein or to enforce any further restrictions that in his/her opinion do

                                         not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED

                                         WARRANTY OR SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM ALTERATION OF

                                         SPECIFICATIONS.  No explanation or variation of these rules are left to the

                                         Discretion of the officials.  The decisions of the officials are final.
